Dublin, Ireland
This new 17 acre park is a recent competition sponsored by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. The proposed design establishes a park character by interweaving a strong arterial framework within the existing structure of land and vegetation on this historic agricultural site. New north-south spines frame recreational activities, building/development envelops and temper environmental impact by maintaining and preserving the east-west hedgerow and field composition. Overlapping systems promote the park as a connector, provide multiple pedestrian and vehicular access points, and unite adjacent neighbourhoods. The park is a significant community focus and a critical component of this new urban realm. Program elements include: track and field, soccer fields, a roller blade and skateboard park, child play, community event space, water feature and paddling pond, and the incorporation of support facilities; restaurant, clubhouse, boathouse and sports club.
