Toronto, Ontario
Quinn Design Associates redesigned a dated Station Street that had a back alley feel into a visually stimulating experience of rhythmic banding in varying angles. The creative articulation of the streetscape meshed well with a proposed tower by Tampold Architects to straddle Station Street. Located in the middle of Toronto's downtown business district Station Street and its buildings serve as a pedestrian spillway from Union Station - the busiest transportation hub in Canada. The new design both animates the street and functions to promote safety. Rhythms of coloured paving bands and in ground lighting articulate possible linkages between entrances and exits, sightline pedestrian crosswalks, and frequently used shortcuts. The design as a whole helps to unify the north and south sides of the street creating a new identity for this bustling pedestrian thoroughfare.
