QUINN designed a unified landscape of hard and soft areas for the site. The urban plazas that line the stadium on the north east and west sides are hardscaped with quilt pattern paving to add interest, pedestrian scale, and colour to the surfaces. Canopy trees arranged in bosques and promenades provide shade, human scale, and framework for the pedestrian precinct. The events plaza, north of the stadium, provides a central spine of canopy trees and offers generous hard surfaced areas conducive to pre-function events and gatherings. Vine plantings in the form of Virginia Creeper animate the stadium roof and further align vegetation and the built fabric. The plaza is able to fit into the surrounding urban fabric of the Exhibition grounds through use of the pavement pattern and perimeter canopy trees.
