Quinn Design Associates worked with the Sisters of St. Joseph to develop a master plan for St. Joseph's Health Centre. QUINN consulted with the surrounding neighbourhood and community groups to resolve the hospital's presence in a residential neighbourhood. The firm designed a strategically planted streetscape to mediate the difference between building scales. Street trees provide drama in their foliage and size as well as shade while smaller shrubs screened out hospital servicing and functions. In conjunction with traffic studies QUINN also designed a wider streetscape. Within the site the firm designed several gardens to accommodate unique sensory capabilities including a detoxification garden. Plantings were used to frame buildings and site servicing as well as step to match grade changes.
