Quinn Design Associates Inc. recently designed two interior courtyards within the new Support Services Building at Toronto General Hospital. The courtyards invite social activity and provide lush contemplative surroundings within the hospital. The landscape spaces are structured to work together to create harmonious experiences of sights, scents and textures. Planter seat walls, lighting, and plantings are configured to provide comfortable settings for visitors and patients alike. The courtyards provide patients' rooms with visual access to plant life and sunlight while providing separation and privacy from courtyard inhabitants. The interior landscape design required careful selection of plant species with low allergens and toxicity levels appropriate to the healthcare environment .
