Toronto, Ontario
Design for this $1.5M landscape defines spatial rhythm along the facade of Toronto General Hospital's Support Services Building. Pedestrian and vehicular movement provides a new entry court for the hospital and establishes a series of dynamic spaces which engage the street edge. Raised planters of perennials and grasses combine with groupings of street trees to delineate pathways, gathering areas, and public plazas, distinguishing the site within its urban context. Existing trees, utility zones, and an underground tunnel are rationalized within the new patterns of planting and paving on the site. Landscape elements coalesce to create a variety of movement routes through the site, encompassing the city sidewalk as an active participant in the site strategy.
